I was born and raised on the island of La Palma (Canary Islands). After finishing my psychology studies on the islands, I decided to continue my life in a bigger city so I moved to Valencia (Spain) in 2013 in the mainland. It was there where, after taking some photography courses, I decided to devote myself to photography.

Since returning back to the islands, my main occupation has been working as a psychologist. Although I like my profession, since I was a child I have always felt that there was something within me that needed to be expressed and that psychology hasn’t helped me to release. Thanks to photography, I have been able to cover this gap, and now I am at a point in my life where I feel complete. When I take up the camera, I feel that I have no pressure on me, I feel free to express myself and that comforts me.

What I like most about taking photos is recreating imaginary worlds or unusual situations charged with tension. I like to define my photography as fiction, as something that is not entirely real. I really enjoy creating unreal stories about reality.

Do you remember your first shot? What was it?

I remember having had a camera from a very young age. The first time I took a photo (I think) was on my first trip to Madrid. I wanted to photograph everything: monuments, its streets, its people, everything was new and exciting for me at the age of 12 years.

When you’re planning a new shoot, what are the first things you do before shooting day?

I know it may sound very obvious but if I don’t say it, I think I would be lying. The first thing I do before the day of the photoshoot is to clean the camera lens well, charge the batteries and make sure I have the memory cards from the camera.

Then I check that I have everything else. I review the notes, I like to have some references, some photos that I have been inspired by for example or some texts that I read the day before.

What’s in your camera bag these days?

Just the camera and batteries. But soon I will take the camera again. I promise, I think I have some fascinating ideas.

Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I am really enjoying my latest series “Stars” (2020), which has marked a turning point in my career and is defining the line that I will follow in this year 2021.

What are your career goals?

I started taking photographs as a hobby but over time, it has become very important to me. At first I did not imagine going out in magazines or exhibiting in art galleries, but little by little I have been achieving achievements and now I cannot stop. I don’t know how far I want or can go, but I do know that I want to find out. It will be a very enriching trip for me, I will enjoy and learn from each step that I take. I am sure.

What are your upcoming projects/trips?

I am currently planning some photo shoots for the first quarter of 2021. I also want to continue with the design of my first collection of earrings and fashion accessories. At the end of this year I would like to edit my first book of photographs. I want it to be a kind of “The best of” together with some unpublished photos and take advantage of it to rescue some very interesting outtakes.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

Before photography I used to compose electronic music with the computer, then I started to write a novel (which never ends). If I did not dedicate myself to photography, I would possibly be composing music again or perhaps dedicating myself to design, lately it is a discipline that is attracting my attention.

What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer?

Having trust in ourself is very important.it is a very difficult world. We live in a very visual and very global era. This reality is here to stay and we must take advantage of the advantages it has but we must also be very constant and fight for our dreams. Another important aspect is training. Training is very important and you have to do it constantly. You never have to stop doing it, there are always new things to learn that will help us on our way.
